Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for inputting a character are provided to enable a user to input a character by preparing a touch screen in a terminal. CONSTITUTION: A touch screen(210) displays not only an extension key set including a text keys that can be combined with a first character corresponding to a relevant key inputted through a base key set, but also a basic key set including character keys. When receiving a first character key through the basic keyset, a control unit(250) controls the touch screen to display the extensible key set and receives at least one character through the basic keyset and the extensible key set. When receiving the second character keyset through the extensible set, the control unit controls the touch screen to display the first and second characters through the combination, wherein the second character corresponds to the inputted second character key.
