Abstract: A compatible circuit and a method for a 4 pole earphone and a 5 pole earphone are provided to use a 4-pole earphone in a portable terminal using a 5-pole earphone without any restriction. Abstract: PURPOSE: A state display method using a sound of a mobile communication terminal having a removable earphone mike and a method therefor are provided so that a user can distinguish an operation state of the terminal through the sound of the terminal without watching a display window. CONSTITUTION: An earphone mike(110) having a call/standby button(116) is removably mounted on a main body of a terminal through a connection terminal. A central processing unit(120) controls the whole operation. In detail, the central processing unit(120) senses a number of pressing the call/standby button(116) of the earphone mike(110), and controls a state of the terminal according to the sensing result. In addition, the central processing unit(120) controls a beep tone generator(140) to generate a beep tone indicating the state of the terminal and provide the beep tone to an earphone(114) of the earphone mike(110). Therefore, the beep tone generator(140) is operated under the control of the central processing unit(120), for generating the beep tone and transmitting it to the earphone(114) of the earphone mike(110). A memory(130) stores specific data of the terminal and program data. A ROM and a RAM may be used as the memory(130). As a result, the user can distinguish the state of the terminal through the beep tone.
