Abstract: A method and an apparatus for inputting data in a portable terminal are provided to enable users to input easily various nonstandard data only for the user to use so that they can easily and conveniently use various, abundant expressions. If a user makes a request for data input mode(S201), a control part confirms whether automatic data input mode is in an active state(S202). If so, the control part receives a phoneme or a combination of phonemes from the user and displays it(S204). The control part looks up the inputted phoneme or combination in a user-dictionary and obtains corresponding user-data(S205,S206). Then the control part confirms how frequently the obtained user-data are used, and displays them in the order of frequency in use(S207). If the user selects one of the displayed user-data(S208), the control part inputs and displays the selected user-data(S209). Then the control part increases the frequency number of the selected user-data.
