    Abstract: PURPOSE: A secondary amide cavitand which selectively binds to anion is provided to apply in environment, medicine and bio-technical field as a functional material. CONSTITUTION: A secondary amide cavitand(organic receptor) selectively binds to anion of structural formula 1. The cavitand is Tetrakis(t-butylamido) cavitand 1a or Tetrakis(p-nitrophenylamido) cavitand 1b. The anion bound to the cabitand is halide, cyanide, azide, nitrate, carboxylate, phosphate, sulfate, or sulfonate. The cavitant is used in an anion sensor or anion remover.

CONSTITUTION: An urea cavitand(organic receptor) selectively binds to anions of structural formula 1. In structural formula 1, R is hydrogen, functionalized alkyl, functionalized aryl, or nitro. The canbitand is tetrakis(phenylurea) cavitand 1a or tetrakis(p-nitrophenylurea) cavitand 1b. The anion bound to the cabitand is halide, cyanide, azide, nitrate, dihydrogen phosphate, hexafluorophosphate, tetrafluoroborate, methanesulfonate or carboxylate.
