Abstract:
PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for eliminating 1,4-dioxane from an 1,4-dioxane diluents solution are provided to improve the reaction speed of an elimination process by maintaining the adequate concentration of zero-valent iron and the adequate range of pH. CONSTITUTION: Zero-valent iron is added to an 1,4-dioxane diluted solution. Ultraviolet-C ray between 200 and 280nm is radiated to the 1,4-dioxane diluted solution. The pH of a storage tank for the 1,4-dioxane diluted solution is maintained between 3 and 4 using sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid. Zero-valent iron is mounted to an ultraviolet reaction bath using an ultraviolet lamp and a magnet. The concentration of the zero-valent iron is maintained between 0.19 and 0.38M.
