Abstract: A Bacillus subtilis KK71 strain, a pharmaceutical composition for lowering blood sugar, and a food additive containing the culture solution of the strain are provided to inhibit the activity of alpha-glucosidase and to improve thermal stability. A Bacillus subtilis KK71 strain is the Bacillus subtilis KK71 strain (KACC 91317) and inhibits the activity of alpha-glucosidase. A pharmaceutical composition for lowering blood sugar contains the culture solution of the Bacillus subtilis KK71 strain as an active ingredient. Preferably the culture solution has a powder form prepared by spray-drying or freeze-drying.
