Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition and health functional food containing carnosic acid is provided to reduce the concentration of obesity-associated factors in blood and to relieve colon cancer development. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating obesity or obesity-induced colon cancer contains carnosic acid as an active ingredient. The carnosic acid is extracted and isolated using water or organic solvent from rosemary. The organic solvent is alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms, acetone, ether, benzene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride, hexane, cyclo hexane, or a mixture solvent thereof. A health functional food for preventing or treating obesity or colon cancer induced from obesity contains the carnosic acid as an active ingredient.
