    Abstract: An SVP(short vegetative phase) gene for controlling the flowering time is provided to mediate the signal transfer process in response to changes of ambient temperature and control the phase transition period in the development step of flower, so that the gene is useful for promoting the flowering time to produce rapidly flowers and seeds, or delaying the flowering time to increase production of leaf and stem. An SVP gene for controlling the flowering time has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 and inhibits the expression of FT(flowering locus T) sequence by binding to CArG motif of the FT sequence. A transgenic plant is prepared by transforming a plant with a recombinant vector containing the SVP gene. The flowering time of a plant is delayed by overexpressing the SVP gene in the plant, or promoted by inhibiting expression of SVP gene in the plant, wherein the plant is Arabidopsis thaliana.
