Abstract: An apparatus and a method for the treatment of wastewater are provided to increase removal efficiencies of nitrogen and phosphorous and improve overall utilization efficiency of organic matters. An apparatus for the treatment of wastewater using activated sludge of a sequencing batch reactor comprises: a flow equalization tank(12) in which raw water flows, and which equalizes flow rate and load of the raw water; a sequencing batch reactor(20) including a discharge preparation chamber(24) for forming and discharging settled sludge; an intermittent hydraulic pump supplying the flow rate within the flow equalization tank to the sequencing batch reactor; a sludge transfer pump(50) returning settled sludge in the sequencing batch reactor and discharge preparation chamber to the flow equalization tank; a first stirrer and a first aerator(80,82) installed in the flow equalization tank; and a second stirrer and a second aerator(90,92) installed in the sequencing batch reactor.
