Abstract:
A method for conferring tolerance against disease, drought or salt on plants by using the nucleotide sequence encoding galactinol synthase is provided to improve survival ability of the plants under the infected conditions of pathogenic fungi or pathogenic bacteria, or under the conditions of drought or high salt. The method for conferring tolerance against disease, drought or salt on plants comprises the steps of: preparing a recombinant vector containing the nucleotide sequence encoding galactinol synthase; and transforming a plant with the recombinant vector, wherein the nucleotide sequence encoding galactinol synthase is isolated from cucumber, and is set forth in SEQ ID NO:1; and the galactinol synthase has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2. A composition for conferring tolerance against disease, drought or salt on plants comprises the recombinant vector containing the nucleotide sequence encoding galactinol synthase.
