    Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for preparing a foaming styrene resin particle and a foaming styrene resin particle prepared by the method are provided, to prepare a foaming styrene resin particle with an excellent appearance without generating harmful benzene. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of adding a suspension stabilizer to water in a polymerization tank to prepare a suspension; adding a styrene dispersion comprising a styrene monomer, t-peroxy 2-ethylhexyl monocarbonate and t-amyl 2-ethylhexyl monocarbonate to the polymerization tank with stirring and polymerizing the mixture at a high temperature; and infiltrating a hydrocarbon of a low boiling point into the material of the tank at a temperature lower than a softening point. Preferably the suspension stabilizer is tricalcium phosphate and/or hydroxyethyl cellulose; and the hydrocarbon is pentane, butane or propane.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing an effervescent styrene resin particle having an improved mould release property. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises adding polydimethylsiloxane-polyoxyethylene copolymer when suspension polymerizing a styrene monomer. The polydimethylsiloxane-polyoxyethylene copolymer is added as a solution with sulfonic acid ammonium sulfate and styrene monomer. The solution of polydimethylsiloxane-polyoxyethylene copolymer, sulfonic acid ammonium sulfate and styrene monomer is added when degree of polymerization is 50-80%. The styrene monomer is a styrene monomer, or a mixture of acrylonitrile or alpha-methylstyrene based on styrene monomer therewith.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a method for producing polystyrene resin beads which show a high expansion efficiency with a low foaming agent content and thereby, can avoid environment-related regulations. CONSTITUTION: In the method, a subsidiary foaming agent of high molecular compound with a large steric hindrance is used in addition a main foaming agent selected from butane, pentane or mixtures thereof which are used in conventional method for producing formable polystyrene resins. The subsidiary foaming agent may be alpha-methylpolystyrene-acrylonitrile copolymers or alkylmethacrylate polymers and is used in an amount of 5 to 10 wt% based on the weight of the added styrene monomer. The main foaming agent is used in an amount of 4 to 5 wt%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for preparing expandable polystyrene having excellent expandibility and mechanical strength is provided. The expandable polystyrene does not exhibit any shrinking phenomena after expansion by adding grafting agent during polymerization of EPS. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing expandable polystyrene includes the steps of (a) mixing 90 to 97 parts by weight of styrene monomer, 0.001 to 0.5 parts by weight of polymerization additive and grafting agent to conduct suspension polymerization at 80 to 90 deg.C for 2 to 5 hours, wherein the polymerization additive contains 0.1 to 0.5 parts by weight of initiator, 0.3 to 0.6 parts by weight of suspension stabilizer and less than 0.01 parts by weight of auxiliary stabilizer, based on 100 parts by weight of styrene monomer; and (b) feeding 3 to 10 parts by weight of expanding agent to the polymer of suspension polymerization steadily for 0.5 to 3 hours followed by keeping at 100 to 130 deg.C for 1 to 2 hours. The grafting agent is selected from divinylbenzene, ethylene glycol dimethacylate and trimethylpropane triacrylate.
