Abstract: PURPOSE: A gel type nickel-based secondary battery is provided to prevent the evaporation of electrolyte solution and local heterogenization so that the capacity, cycle life, self discharge property and stability of the battery can be improved. CONSTITUTION: The nickel-based secondary battery comprises a nickel electrode(11) as a cathode, an anode(12), a separator(13) between the electrodes, and a gel electrolyte(10) impregnated into the pores of the electrodes and the separator and around the electrodes. The nickel-based secondary battery is characterized in that the electrolyte is a gel type alkaline solution comprising 4M to 8M of KOH solution and a swellable polymer which can be mixed and gelled in the solution.

Abstract: 본 발명은 양극으로서 니켈 전극과, 음극과, 전극 사이에 배치된 분리막과, 전극 및 분리막의 기공내부 및 전극 주위에 함침된 젤 전해질로 구성되며, 상기 전해질은 4M ~ 8M의 KOH 용액과 상기 용액에 혼합되어 젤화되는 팽윤성 고분자로 구성되는 젤형 알칼리용액인 것을 특징으로 하는 니켈계 이차전지를 제공한다. 본 발명에 의하면 전해질용액의 증발이나 국부적 불균일화 현상이 방지되어 전지의 용량과 싸이클수명, 자기 방전특성 및 안정성이 향상되고, 전지의 밀폐화를 가능하게 하며 생산성도 우수하다.
