    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided are ground water in-situ and out-site treatment methods for removing nitrates in ground water or river water filtrate using a permeable reactive wall, a reaction tank and a packed column containing autotrophic sulfur oxidizing microorganism therein. CONSTITUTION: The in-situ method comprises the steps of (a) preparing permeable reactive wall using sulfur oxidizing microorganism or sulfur powder fixing the sulfur oxidizing microorganism thereto, (b) installing the permeable reactive wall in the middle of ground water passage way, and (c) purifying ground water polluted with nitrates by passing the polluted ground water through the permeable reactive wall.
