Abstract: Preparation of 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane comprises (A) introducing excess 1,1,1-trichloroethane and anhydrous hydrogen fluoride into reactor(1) through pipes(2,3) and continuously reacting them in a mole ratio of 100:1-1:1 at 60-200 deg.C and 3-15 bars in the liquid phase ; (B) introducing gas mixture of reaction product and unreacted reactant into the lower part of distillation tower(6) through pipe(4) ; (C) contacting the mixture with liquid reflux from the top and recycling high b.p. composition to reactor(1) and condensing high volatile composition in condenser(8) ; (D) separating liquid-gas mixture from the condenser(8) into inorganic, organic and vapor layers in separator(10) ; (E) recycling inorganic layer and part of organic layer to the upper part of the tower and discharging gas layer through pipe(13) of the separator and the rest of organic layer through pipe(12), which is further refined to give 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane.

Abstract: The continuous production of 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane(HCFC-1416) comprises (a) continuously liquid phase reacting 1,1,1- trichloroethane with an excessive amount of an anhydrous hydrofluoric acid in the reactor at 4-20 bar and 60-130 deg.C., (b) contacting and rectifying the produced gas and the anhydrous hydrofluoric acid to recycle a low volatile material of the anhydrous hydrofluoric acid to the reactor, and to condense an azeotropic mixture of an organic material and the hydrofluoric acid and high volatile material of a hydrochloric acid in the condenser, (c) separating an inorganic layer(HF), an organic layer and a gas layer(HCl) from the liquid-gas mixture in the layer separator, and (d) purifying the exhausted organic layer.
