Abstract: 본 발명은 전자 전달 매체 없이 전극 반응을 하는 금속염 환원 세균을 이용한 생물 연료 전지를 제공한다. 본 발명에 따른 금속염 환원 세균은 발효 대사에서 발생하는 환원력을 전자 대사를 통해 세포 외부에서 소비하므로, 폐수에 함유되어 있는 유기물과 무기물을 연료로 이용하여 전류를 발생시킬 수 있다. 본 발명에 따른 금속염 환원 세균을 이용한 연료 전지에서 약 30 mM의 젖산염이 아세트산으로 산화될 때 최대 0.42 V, 1.1 mA의 전기 에너지가 발생하였다. 연료 전지의 효율은 촉매로 사용하는 균체량과 유효 전극 면적을 증가시킴으로써 향상되었다.

Abstract: 본 발명은 토양에서 분리한 두 종류의 금속염 환원 세균을 이용한 고령토의 탈철에 의한 다양한 품질 개선 효과를 제공한다. 본 발명에 사용한 금속염 환원 세균은 에너지 대사에서 발생하는 환원력 또는 유기산을 산화제이철의 환원에 이용하기 때문에 폐수에 함유되어 있는 유기물을 이용하여 고령토에 함유되어 있는 불용성의 산화제이철을 수용성이 높은 산화제일철로 환원시켜 제거할 수 있다. 본 발명에 따른 금속염 환원 세균을 이용한 고령토의 혐기적 처리에서 50 밀리몰의 포도당 또는 젖산을 기질로 사용한 경우 최고 40%의 탈철 효율을 보였다. 탈철 효율은 옥살산염 등의 착물 활성 물질을 첨가함으로써 최고 50%까지 증가하는 것으로 확인되었다. 철 환원 세균으로 처리한 고령토의 백색도는 크게 개선되었다.
