Abstract: Provided are a dietary supplement and a pharmaceutical composition which prevent and treats apoplexy by protecting the nerve cell of brain from damage by using caryophyllene or its derivatives. The dietary supplement comprises 0.1-20 wt% of a caryophyllene derivative selected from the group consisting of caryophyllene or isocaryophyllene, alpha-caryophyllene(cis-caryophyllene), caryophyllene oxide, caryophyllene alcohol and caryophyllene acetate; and a sitologically acceptable food additive. The pharmaceutical composition comprises a caryophyllene derivative selected from the group consisting of caryophyllene or iso caryophyllene, alpha-caryophyllene(cis-caryophyllene), caryophyllene oxide, caryophyllene alcohol and caryophyllene acetate; and a pharmaceutical acceptable carrier.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition comprising caryophyllene or a derivative thereof is provided to be able to show protecting effect on damage of brain cell, thereby preventing and treating cerebrovascular accident(CVA). The pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cerebrovascular accident(CVA) comprises caryophyllene or a derivative thereof selected from the group consisting of iso-caryophyllene, alpha-caryophyllene, caryophyllene oxide, caryophyllene alcohol, and caryophyllene acetate and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Regarding the total weight of the composition, the caryophyllene or derivative thereof is 0.5-50 wt.%.
