Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition for alleviating side effects resulted from cancer therapy comprising the extract of Schisandra chinensis and the extract of Vitis coignetiae is provided to reduce side effects resulted from cancer therapy without causing other toxicity, increase killing effects of cancer cells by anticancer agents or radiation, and enhance survival rate of normal cells. The pharmaceutical composition for alleviating side effects resulted from cancer therapy comprises the extract of Schisandra chinensis and the extract of Vitis coignetiae, wherein the amount of Schisandra chinensis extract or Vitis coignetiae extract is 1-99 wt.% based on the total weight of the composition, and is obtained by extracting Schisandra chinensis with 70-90% ethanol at 20-60 deg.C and atmospheric pressure for 1-10 hours, filtering the extract, and evaporating ethanol from the filtered solution.
