Abstract: Antimicrobial nano-particle clay is provided to inhibit growth and proliferation of microorganisms by substituting interlayer cations of clay by alkylamine, so that the clay is useful for prevention of damage from microorganisms such as harmful bacteria and fungi. A method for manufacturing the antimicrobial nano-particle clay comprises the steps of: dispersing a nano-particle clay mineral selected from montmorillonite, hectorite, saponite, laponite, vermiculite, illite, pyrophyllite-talc, mica and brittle mica with silicate layer structure in organic acidic solution which is prepared by adding an organic solvent of ethanol, methanol, isopropylalcohol, acetone, dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide or N-methylpyrrolidone into solution containing distilled water and hydrochloric acid; adding alkylamine onium selected from into the organic acidic solution; and filtering and drying the reacted product.
