Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition comprising a combined extract of Curcuma longa L. and Nelumbo nucifera as active ingredients for alleviating and treating hypercholesterolemia or obesity. More specifically, the combined extract of Curcuma longa L. and Nelumbo nucifera has a more synergistic fat suppression effect; a greater synergistic total cholesterol suppression effect in vitro; a greater synergistic CETP deactivating effect; and a greater synergistic total cholesterol suppression effect in vivo than a herbal medicine extract of combining Curcuma longa L. and Nelumbo nucifera which treats Curcuma longa L. and Nelumbo nucifera separately. Accordingly, the composition can be used as a pharmaceutical composition or a health functional food for alleviating and treating hypercholesterolemia or obesity.
