Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition containing an extract of Citrus junos for preventing and treating benign prostatic hyperplasia. The extract of Citrus junos shows high survival rate of cells with high cytotoxicity among prostatic carcinoma cells, inhibitory activity for 5-alpha- reductase type 1 and 2 extracted from liver of SD rat grown for 12 weeks in which prostatomegaly is induced, a control effect of 5RD activity in 5RD type 2 overexpressed prostate cells, and a control effect of mRNA of PSA. The extract of Citrus junos also shows the significant reduction of DHT change in a prostatomegaly induction experiment using rats to be usefully applied to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating benign prostatic hyperplasia and health functional food.
