Abstract: A device for protecting a molten carbonate fuel cell, and a method for protecting a molten carbonate fuel cell are provided to prevent the deterioration of the performance of a stack and the lifetime of a stack by supplying a mixture gas for emergency to a stack in case of stopping of gas supply to a stack. A device for protecting a molten carbonate fuel cell comprises a gas supplier(10) which generates the gas necessary for a molten carbonate fuel cell to supply it to a gas transport pipe(11); a stack(20) of a molten carbonate fuel cell which is supplied with the gas from the gas transport pipe to generate electricity by electrochemical reaction; a power converter(30) which is supplied with electricity from the stack to convert it into necessary power; a controller(50) which observes whether the gas supplier is operated normally or not to control the operation of the power converter; and a mixture gas supplier(40) for emergency which supplies the mixture gas for emergency to the stack of a molten carbonate fuel cell according to the control signal of the controller.
