Abstract: PURPOSE: Image classification apparatus and method are provided to enable users to obtain representative samples of individuals without the interference of a user on a personal photograph classifying system. CONSTITUTION: An image classification apparatus comprises the following: a database construction unit(100) saving a face feature descriptor or a clothing feature descriptor; a first processing unit(300) comparing a classification target image with the face feature or clothing feature descriptor, and generating a representative image model; a second processing unit(400) comparing additional information saved in the representative image model, and additional information of the classification target image. The second processing unit also classifies the classification target image per individual by the comparison result and the measured similarity.
