    Abstract: PURPOSE: A device for automatically building a printing character image database and a method thereof are provided to reduce manpower, time, and costs for building the database by automatically building the character image database for offline character recognition. CONSTITUTION: A font setting unit(30) sets sizes, decorations, and types of fonts by using various font files received from a font file supply unit(10) and provides corresponding information to a character setting unit(40). A virtual character image generating unit(50) generates a virtual character image by using the font information. A character model applying unit(60) applies the virtual character image to a character model based on resolution information provided by a resolution information providing unit(20) in order to generate a final character image. A character image storage unit(70) stores the character image in a desired file type.
