Abstract: An optical waveguide device is provided to decrease a propagation loss of a metal waveguide by forming a dielectric layer with a smaller refractive index than the cladding layer between metal lines. An optical waveguide device includes a dielectric layer(201) and metal lines(101,102). The metal lines have predetermined widths and are arranged in a vertical direction. The dielectric layer is arranged between the metal lines. N metal lines and N-1 dielectric layers form a lamination structure. The metal lines are arranged to be close to each other to generate an interaction between surface plasmons. Dielectric claddings(301,302) are arranged around the metal lines at uppermost and lowermost portions of the metal waveguide.
