Abstract: PURPOSE: An LSF(Line Spectral Frequency) quantizer for a wide band voice encoder is provided to reduce the computation amount and the memory capacity required for searching code book without any decrease of the SD performance by introducing safety-net and the split vector quantizer into the LSF coefficient quantizer. CONSTITUTION: An LSF quantizer for a wide band voice encoder includes a subtracter(11) for removing DC components by receiving LSF coefficient vectors(R(n)), a memory-based PVQ(pyramid vector quantization) unit(12) and a memoryless PVQ unit(13) for quantizing received LSF coefficient vectors from which the DC components are removed, a switching element(14) for selecting and outputting quantizing vectors having a small Euclidean distance from the input LSF coefficient vectors among the quantizing vectors quantized in the memory-based PVQ unit and the memoryless PVQ unit, and an adder(15) for adding the selected quantizing vector to the DC components of the LSF coefficient vectors.
