    Abstract: PURPOSE: A novel imide acid dihydride prepared by reacting acid dihydride containing an amic acid group prepared by reacting acid dihydride and diamine, and an amic acid group, tetracarboxylic acid and tetracarboxylic acid dialkylester prepared from them each are provided which are useful for the manufacture of polyimide and as a hardening agent for epoxy. CONSTITUTION: An acid dihydride of formula (1) and (2) containing an amic acid or an imide group as a precursor of polyimide is produced by reaction of aromatic dihydride or cyclic acid dihydride and aromatic diamine at low temperatures in an inactive solvent. The acid anhydride is reacted with water to give tetracarboxylic acid of formula (3), which is reacted with alkyl alcohol to give tetracarboxylic acid dialkylester of formula (5).
