    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a process for producing a high performance carbon fiber which has improved adhesive property with a matrix resin by electrochemical treatment of surface being carbon fiber. Thereby, the process increases to 60-80% of oxygen functional group on surface of fiber and 38-57% of interlayer shear strength(ILSS) of compound material. CONSTITUTION: The high performance carbon fiber is obtained by a process containing the steps of: using acid solution as electrolytic solution; surface-treating a high strength carbon fiber electrochemically in relatively low current density; and then introducing oxygen functional group on surface of carbon fiber by anodic oxidation to improve surface cohesion with the matrix resin. Acidic electrolytic solution is lewis acid solution of HNO3, H2SO4, HCl, H3PO4, H2C2O4, H2NSO3H and C7C6O2. Concentration of acidic electrolytic solution is 5-40wt.%. Electric current is impressed between a graphite positive plate and a graphite negative plate in 0.5-5V of voltage and 5-500microampere/m2 of current density. Electric current is impressed for 10-120seconds.

The polymeric matrix can be used in manufacturing a large liquid crystal display because of its excellent electro-optical property.
