Abstract: PURPOSE: Cationic imidazolidine based ruthenium carbene compounds, and the use thereof as catalyst are provided, which ruthenium carbene compounds have improved stability to the air and humidity, so that the catalyst using the ruthenium carbene compounds can be easily stored and used in the reaction. CONSTITUTION: The cationic imidazolidine based ruthenium carbene compounds represented by formula (1) or isomers thereof are provided, wherein A is anion; L is a neutral electron donor ligand; x is the number of ligand and 3 or 4; R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are independently hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, or optionally substituted aryl. A method for preparing the cationic imidazolidine based ruthenium carbene compounds represented by formula (1) comprises reacting a compound of formula (2) with a ligand(L) in the presence of an anion(A-) containing compound, wherein L' is a neutral electron donor ligand; and Y is an anionic ligand.
