Abstract: PURPOSE: A gate operating system and a method thereof are provided to safely open a gate and to load baggage without putting down the baggage by a signal input by stepping a laser point irradiated on the bottom. CONSTITUTION: A gate operating system (100) comprises a smart key recognizing unit, a first ultrasonic wave sensor (120), a laser diode unit (130), a second ultrasonic wave sensor (140), a gate driving unit, and a control unit. The laser diode unit irradiates a plurality of laser points on the bottom and marks the stepping position to operate a gate. The control unit controls the opening/closing operation of the gate driving unit based on the user position information checked by either the smart key recognizing unit or the first ultrasonic wave sensor and the information where users maintain a step-on state for a predetermined time by the second ultrasonic sensor.
