Abstract:
A composition is disclosed. The composition comprises at least one polymeric colorant having a polymer component with a colorant component covalently bound thereto, a medicament, and a liquid vehicle. The at least one colorant component does not react directly or indirectly with the medicament. Methods of using the polymeric colorants, including a method for the preparation of skin as a site for a surgical procedure and a method of treating a medical condition, are also provided.
Abstract:
The disclosure provides apparatus and assemblies for disinfecting a stethoscope chestpiece. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes an applicator that dispenses a disinfecting fluid when contacted with a stethoscope chestpiece and a motion generator to move the applicator relative to the chestpiece. In some embodiments, an apparatus comprises a chestpiece receiver operably coupled to a means for dispensing a fluid disinfectant. In some embodiments, the assembly includes an absorbent material comprising a plurality of contact regions and a disinfecting fluid and a means for replacing one of the plurality of contact regions with another of the plurality of contact regions. Methods of use are also provided.
Abstract:
The disclosure provides processes and systems for sterilizing an object using a sterilant gas. In some embodiments, the sterilant gas is produced by the thermal decomposition of a salt. Compositions to generate sterilant gasses are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method for testing efficacy of a protease enzyme assay, the method comprising providing an enzyme which acts as a surrogate enzyme control for the protease enzyme; combining the surrogate enzyme control with an assay substrate for the protease enzyme; and determining a change in the assay substrate resulting from the surrogate enzyme control acting on the assay substrate; wherein the protease enzyme is selected from the group consisting of metalloproteinases, serine proteases, and cysteine proteases; a method for conducting a protease enzyme assay using the method for testing efficacy; a kit including an enzyme which acts as a surrogate enzyme control for a protease enzyme in testing efficacy of a protease enzyme assay; and a method of releasing the kit are provided.
Abstract:
Polymeric beads and methods of making the polymeric beads are described. The polymeric beads are crosslinked hydrogels or dried hydrogels. The polymeric beads are formed from droplets of a precursor composition that are exposed to radiation. The droplets are totally surrounded by a gas phase. The precursor composition contains a polar solvent and a polymerizable material miscible in the polar solvent. The polymerizable material has an average number of ethylenically unsaturated groups per monomer molecule equal to at least 1.2.
Abstract:
Sterilization indicators that include a neutralizer, such indicators useful for testing the effectiveness of a sterilization procedure by measuring the activity of an active enzyme whose activity is correlated with the survival of microorganisms.
Abstract:
Ligand functionalized substrates, methods of making ligand functionalized substrates, and methods of using functionalized substrates are disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention provides materials, methods, and kits for reducing nonspecific binding of molecules to a surface, particularly in a solid phase material, and more specifically a solid phase material that includes a hydrophobic portion, by contacting the solid phase material with a fluorinated nonionic surfactant comprising two or more fluorinated hydrophobic segments and one or more hydrophilic segments
