Abstract: The invention relates to a system for the support of an error cause analysis in the case of an error event in an industrial plant. A data processing device (30) with an error model store (31) is provided in the system. At least one hierarchically structured cause/effect model (error model) is stored in the error model store (31) in the form of XML files, with the possibility of accessing the above by means of an error cause navigator (21) and an operation and display unit (11). Each stored cause/effect model comprises an industry-specific process model, divided into process steps. Said model has the respective process steps with the required, defined error events, pertaining to plant components or plant systems and the error trees relating to the error events with error hypotheses, whereby each error hypothesis has a checklist with symptoms for verification of the error hypotheses.

An optimisation layer ( 6 ) is implemented on the client side in addition to the other local proxies (proxies 3 ), said optimisation layer being configured in order to carry out client-sided optimisation and to combine groups of requests. Also, a general proxy ( 7 ) is installed which is configured in order to carry out grouped service requests and to return answer messages to the optimisation layer ( 6 ).
