Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heat a tape of fiber composite material over a wide area at a high speed so as to obtain a high speed welding by arranging at least one extending heating element in a heater. SOLUTION: A heater comprises at least two partial heaters controllable individually. In each of the partial heaters, at least one heating element is arranged. A fiber composite material tape 16 is sent to a heater 14 through a bottom plate 17. The heater 14 comprises a supplying conductor 6 for supplying hot gas. The fiber composite material tapes 15 and 16 are heated at their surfaces facing the heater 14 by the heater 14 up to at least a melting point of the base material of the fiber composite material tape. Accordingly, the fiber composite material tapes 15 and 16 are heated to the melting point or higher of the thermoplastic base material over only small parts of their thickness.

Abstract: A feed unit(2) delivers the fiber arrangement(3) and pretensions it against a surface(5) while a pressure applicator(1) presses the fibers onto the surface. The pressure applicator and feed unit are integrated in a single unit and are controlled to ensure that the force applied by the applicator to the fibers varies according to the pretension of the feed unit to give a constant fiber tension and applicator pressure. An Independent claim is made for a method for placing and connecting a pretensioned fiber reinforcement lay down on a surface(5) using the claimed equipment.
