Abstract: A valve design for micro systems has ferromagnetic balls (2K, 3K, 4K) held into a valve seat or held away from the valve seat using permanent magnets. The valve seats are machined into a non magnetic support plate. The permanent magnets are fitted into sliders on both sides of the valve to open and close the valves. The valve system can have a number of valves on a common mounting with the permanent ,magnets controlling adjacent valves.

Abstract: A micro system valve has several valve spaces (3) cut into a support plate (5) and with at least one outlet (8) in each chamber, as well as a ferromagnetic valve ball (10) in each chamber. The top of each chamber is sealed by a cover plate (6) with machined profiles for the chambers. The valve array has at least three adjacent valves on a single mounting and with the ferromagnetic balls moved by permanent magnets (13, 14) fitted into sliders moving on each side of the valve assembly.

Abstract: A heat conductivity measuring instrument has a heating element that is periodically coupled to a periodic modulation signal. The heating element (2) is co-located with a temperature sensor (3) in the sample medium (10). The range of thermal modulation is maintained at a constant value by active regulation of the modulation signal frequency. The phase shift between the heater modulation signal and the sensor is determined by multiplying the clean modulated signal by the modulation signal. From the resulting signal the double frequencies, and in the case of non-harmonic modulation the higher harmonics, are filtered out to generate a signal devoid of 1/f noise. This signal gives a value for heat conductivity of the sample. An independent claim is included for an electronic circuit for use with the above instrument.
