Abstract: A converter cell (18) for a modular converter (10) comprises at least one power semiconductor switch (34) for switching a cell current through the converter cell (18); a cell capacitor (24) interconnected with the at least one power semiconductor switch (34), such that the cell capacitor (24) is loadable by the cell current; a controller (40) for switching the at least one power semiconductor switch (34), wherein the controller (40) is supplyable with auxiliary power from the cell capacitor (24); and a photovoltaic cell (28) for providing initial and/or further auxiliary power to the controller.
