Abstract: Method and apparatus for continuously monitoring the total mercury concentration in a gas. The device uses the same chamber (18) for converting speciated mercury from inlet (10) into elemental mercury with a suitable heating device (22) and for measurement of the mercury in the chamber by absorption of radiation from source (26) to detector (34). The interior of the chamber (18) is resistant to the absorption of speciated and elemental mercury at the operating temperature of the chamber (18).
