    Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus and process for removing particulate material and mercury-containing compounds from a gas stream. The apparatus includes a particulate removal means (28) to remove the particulate material and a mercury collection means (48) to remove the mercury-containing compounds. The apparatus can selectively remove particulate material and mercury-containing compounds which may be disposed of separately. The mercury collection means (40) is positioned downstream of the particulate removal means (28) and includes a regenerable sorbent. The sorbent is regenerated by elevating the temperature of the sorbent to release the mercury-containing compounds from the sorbent.

    Abstract: A device and method for measuring the concentrations of components of a fluid stream. In the preferred embodiment, the device comprises a radiation source (12) and a radiation detector (20) for measuring radiation transmitted through the fluid stream. Optics, including appropriate lenses (14a, 16a) and a polychromator (18) disperse the radiation and focus it on the radiation detector. The linear photodiode array (21) is located in the focal plane of the polychromator so that each diode corresponds to particular wavelengths of the spectrum produced by the polychromator. Preferably, the fluid stream is an in situ gas stream, such as a fossil fuel fired flue gas in a smoke stack (24a). The measurements are determined from the intensity of radiation over a selected range of radiation wavelengths using peak-to-trough calculations. The need for a reference intensity is eliminated.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a portable data collection device (10) that has a variety of sensors (52) that are interchangeable with a variety of input ports (16) in the device (10). The various sensors (52) include a data identification feature that provides information to the device (10) regarding the type of physical data produced by each sensor (52) and therefore the type of sensor itself. The data identification feature enables the device (10) to locate the input port (16) where the sensor (52) is connected and self adjust when a sensor (52) is removed or replaced.     Abstract: A deflagration suppression system, which is particularly applicable to deflagrations involving combustible gases.
