Abstract: A photocatalyst powder for environmental purification which comprises fine titanium dioxide particles and a porous coating layer of calcium phosphate formed on at least a part of the surface of the particles, and in which an anionic surfactant is present at least at the interface between the surface of the fine titanium dioxide particles and the porous coating layer of calcium phosphate. The photocatalyst powder is produced by dispersing fine titanium dioxide particles in an aqueous slurry containing an anionic surfactant and then forming a porous coating layer of calcium phosphate on the surface of the fine particles. This photocatalyst powder is used, for example, after having been supported on a molded organic polymer.

SOLUTION: This filter 1 comprises a fiber porous body 2 using a large number of silica fibers 21 having intersections 211 thereof connected with each other by an inorganic binder 23 and titanium oxide particles 3 fixed to the silica fibers 21, and is of a type wherein a gas to be treated is made to pass through the fiber porous body 2. The fiber porous body 2 has a porosity of 90-98% and a mean pore diameter of 40-100 μm.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently recover oil from a liq. oil-water mixture by forming a highly porous body contg. inorg. fibers and an inorg. binder and imparting such a satisfactory hydrophilicity as to pass water and to intercept oil to a part of the highly porous body coming in contact with the oil-water mixture. SOLUTION: A molding contg. an aggregate of inorg. fibers capturing an inorg. binder forming powdery starting material is fired at a temp. above the min. temp. at which the powdery starting material reacts with the inorg. fibers to obtain a highly porous fired body having a large specific surface area, a large number of -OH groups per unit volume and such a sufficiently high hydrophilicity as to pass water and to intercept oil. Amorphous silica fibers are predominantly used as the inorg. fibers and fibers of one or more selected from alumina, an aluminosilicate and an aluminoborosilicate are used as inorg. fibers for reinforcement. The inorg. binder is the reaction product of powder of a crystallization inhibitor which inhibits the crystallization of the amorphous silica fibers with the inorg. fibers.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a photocatalyst powder for purifying environment to be added into organic fibers and others by kneading and others, by making an anionic surfactant exist on an interface between a titanium dioxide fine particle and a porous calcium phosphate coating layer formed on a part of its surface. SOLUTION: In the photocatalyst powder for purifying environment which can purify environment effectively, economically, and safely, a powder, in which a porous calcium phosphate coating layer is formed on a part of the surface of a titanium dioxide fine particle, is prepared, an anionic surfactant is made to exist on the interface between the coating layer and the particle. When the photocatalyst powder is supported on an organic polymer medium such as organic fibers by kneading, embedding, and other means and used, the durability is made able to be improved without deteriorating the medium. The titanium dioxide fine particles to be used are preferably a substance the average particle diameter of the primary particles of which is 0.001-0.2 micron.
