Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the subject compound useful as a raw material or intermediate for drugs such as anticonvulsants by reacting an ethanolamine derivative with carbon dioxide in the presence of a photosensitizer, a thiol, a phosphine, a tertiary amine and oxygen. CONSTITUTION:An ethanolamine derivative (e.g. 3-amino-1-phenylethanol) is reacted with carbon dioxide in the presence of a tertiary amine (e.g. triethylamine) in a solvent such as acetonitrile at the room temperature, mixed with a photosensitizer [e.g. tris(2,2'-bipyridinyl)ruthenium (II) chloride], a phosphine (e.g. tri-n-butyl phosphine) and a thiol (e.g. thiphenol) and subsequently irradiated with light to provide the objective compound wherein a reaction vessel contacting with air is employed. The immobilization of the carbon dioxide permits to reduce the concentration of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, prevent the warming of the earth and provide substances having high additional values.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the method for producing a cyclic urethane compound by reacting an aminoalcohol with carbon dioxide. CONSTITUTION:An aminoalcohol is reacted with carbon dioxide in the presence of a tertiary amine, a trivalent organic phosphorus compound and an organic halide compound to produce the cyclic urethane compound. The method can provide the cyclic urethane compound at the ordinary temperature under the ordinary pressure in a high yield. Further, the chemical fixation of the carbon dioxide and the treatment of the organic halide compound can simultaneously be performed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce aromatic carboxylic acid having high additional value from carbon dioxide with rather low voltage and high current efficiency by effecting the electrochemical reaction of aromatic ketone and carbon dioxide in the presence of specified cluster. CONSTITUTION:The reaction of aromatic ketone and carbon dioxide is effected on electrodes in the presence of iron-sulfur cluster expressed by formula (1) or molybdenum-iron-sulfur cluster expressed by formula (2) or (3). In the formula (1), R is phenyl group, benzyl group or tertiary butyl group, X is tetramethylammonium group or tetraethylammonium group, and n is 1, 2, 3 or 4. In the formulae (2), (3), R is phenyl group, benzyl group or ethyl group, X is same as in the formula (1), and n is 2,3,4 or 5. These clusters act as a catalyst for electron movement, and thereby, efficient reaction is possible at a low electric voltage. Thereby, carbon dioxide can be efficiently fixed, which produces aromatic carboxylic acid.

Besides, number of platinum atoms in the molecule is preferably 6-15.
