    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the org. nonlinear optical material having an excellent nonlinear optical effect by constituting the material of a specific rhodanic compd. CONSTITUTION:This org. nonlinear optical material is constituted of the rhodanic compd. expressed by formula I. In the formula I, R denotes the group of formula II, the group of formula III or the group of formula IV. The rhodanic compd. of the formula I is obtd. by subjecting a benzaldehyde deriv. and rhodanine to dehydration condensation in a solvent, such as acetic acid. This rhodanic compd. is a stable crystal having a high m. p. and is usable not only as a single crystal and polymer but as a fiber and vapor deposited film as well. The compd. is useful as a nonlinear optical material for blank materials of optical wavelength conversion elements, optical switching elements, etc. As a result, the org. nonlinear optical material having the high nonlinear optical effect is obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an organic compound having high nonlinear optical effect, consisting of a 2-nitrothiophene derivative shown in a specified expression. CONSTITUTION:This organic nonlinear optical material consists of a 2- nitrothiophene derivative shown in an expression I. In expression I, R is hydrogen atom or halogen atom. The 2-nitrothiophene derivative generates intensive secondary higher harmonics of green light (533nm) by being irradiated with ND:YAG laser(1064nm), etc. The 2-nitrothiophene derivative is a stable crystal and is used not only as a single crystal but also as a fiber or a vapor-deposited film and is usable compound as a nonlinear optical material for an optical wavelength conversion element, an optical switching element, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To utilize effectively energy by producing differential pressure between gas components through a gas selecting permeable material and converting this differential pressure to energy easy to utilize. CONSTITUTION:An upper portion of a container 1 is constituted from a gas selecting permeable material 2 like polyimide resin film reinforced with a perforated glass for example. This container 1 is disposed in the atmosphere which makes the gas selecting permeable material 2 less permeable, and gas component GA such as permeable carbon dioxide, herium, neon, is enclosed in the container 1. this gas component GA permeates through said material 2 to produce differential pressure between the atmosphere and the interior of the container 1 to pump up water into the container 1 through a pipe with this differential pressure.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply obtain an organic solid illuminant which comprises a solid aromatic compound bearing an imino group, manifests luminous phenomenon even in the solid state and is stable and excellent in fluorescence properties. SOLUTION: This solid illuminant comprises a solid aromatic compound bearing an imino group of the formula: -C=NR (R is H, a functional group or organic group, preferably an aliphatic, aromatic, carbocyclic aromatic, heterocyclic aromatic, hydroxyl), typically N-benzylidene)methylamine, N-(naphthylidene)aniline, N-phenyl-troporone-1-imine, N-(α-methylbenzylidene) methylamine, N-phenyl-troporon-1-imine or the like. There compounds are obtained by condensation reaction between an aromatic aldehyde or an aromatic ketone and an amine.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a method for a controlling reproducible nonlinear optical effect with high accuracy by introducing halogen into a compd. exhibiting a cubic nonlinear optical characteristic. CONSTITUTION: Electrons are non-localized in a nonlinear optical material by the interaction of adjacent molecules and the non-local electrons contribute to the development of the nonlinear optical characteristics. The halogen molecules advance easily into the compd. and the advanced halogen intrudes into the compd. and weakens or cuts off the intermolecular interaction possessed by the material when the compd. is exposed to the vapor of the halogen. The electrons non-localized among the molecules are, therefore, localized into the single molecule and the nonlinear optical characteristic is deactivated. The advanced halogen may be removed from the inside of the compd. by heating or irradiation with laser beams, etc., insofar as the halogen is not powerfully restrained by the compd. The compd. is capable of restoring the state exhibiting the original intermolecular interaction when the advanced halogen is removed and, therefore, the nonlinear optical characteristics is restored to the original magnitude.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an information recording material free from particles, having high resolution and excellent in film forming property and workability such as smoothenability by introducing halogen molecules into a metallic complex, weakening or breaking the interaction between molecules of the complex and varying the optical characteristics of the complex. CONSTITUTION:Dimethylglyoximatoplatinum is synthesized by heating in an aq. soln. of alcohol contg. potassium chloroplatinate and dimethylglyoxime, that is, a quartz plate is fixed on a boat for vacuum deposition and a blue thin film is formed by vacuum deposition after evacuation. The light transmittance of this film is measured. The thin film of dimethylglyoximatoplatinum is then put in a laborotory dish, 0.1g iodine is further put and the dish is allowed to stand at room temp. after covering with a lid. By this operation, iodine molecules are introduced into the thin film. A solid line in the diagram shows the transmission spectrum of the thin film of dimethylglyoximatoplatinum and a dotted line shows that of the resultant thin film with introduced iodine. The transmittance is increased by introducing iodine.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain such a nonlinear optical material that the nonlinear optical const. is increased, a uniform thin film can be easily obtd., thermal property of the material is stabilized in air, and the material can be easily handled, by using a plane-type complex obtd. by producing a chelate from two ligands having two C=N double bonds with the nitrogen atoms bonded to metal. CONSTITUTION:The material consists of a plane-type complex obtd. by producing a chelate from two ligands having two C=N double bonds with the nitrogen atoms bonded to metal. This plane-type org. metal complex and the production method of a thin film are not specified but any method can be used. As a typical method of the complex which is generally and preferably adopted, reaction of a compd. which acts as the ligand and a metal chloride is effected in an alcohol soln. By this method, the object plane-type org. metal complex can be obtd. The thin film is produced by vacuum vapor deposition or solvent coating method. In this case, if necessary, other material such as halogen except the ligand comp. may be added.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a useful nonlinear optical material having a high nonlinear optical effect and having no absorption in the visible region by using an org. nonlinear optical material consisting of a specified alpha-alkyl-2-furylacrylic anhydride. CONSTITUTION:This nonlinear optical material consists of an alpha-alkyl-2- furylacrylic anhydride shown by the formula and its compd. In the formula, R is lower alkyls. A strong second harmonic (green light of 1064nm) is generated when the alpha-alkyl-2-furylacrylic anhydride is irradiated with an Nd-YAG laser beam (1064nm), for example. The symmetry of crystal is lost and a nonlinear optical effect is produced from the anhydried because an alkyl substituent is present around the carbonyl group. Consequently, the anhydride is used as a useful nonlinear optical material such as the optical wavelength changing element and optical switching element.

CONSTITUTION:This organic nonlinear optical material consists of a 2-thiophene carboxylic acid derivative. For instance, the thiophene derivative generates intensive higher harmonics(532nm green light) by irradiating it with ND:YAG laser(1064). And the 2-thiophene derivative is a transparent colorless and high melting point crystal at a visible region. And it is usable not only at a state of single crystal but also at a state of a film, a fiber and a vapor-deposited film, and is usable compound as a nonlinear optical material used for an optical wavelength conversion element, an optical switching element, etc.
