    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject reducing agent of high optical purity, consisting of a clathrate complex of cyclodextrin and a reducing agent, capable of carrying out asymmetric reduction in high yield by using an inexpensive and readily available raw material and contriving increase in stability, etc., and useful as a synthetic intermediate for physiologically active substances, etc. CONSTITUTION:An optically active reducing agent consisting of a clathrate complex of cyclodextrin or a derivative thereof and a reducing agent. The reducing agent is included by a method for adding an aqueous solvent or organic solvent in an amount of normally 0.05-10 times based on the cyclodextrin or derivative thereof thereto, converting the resultant mixture into a pasty form, then adding the reducing agent to be included and thoroughly kneading the mixture. As an alternative method, a saturated aqueous solution of the cyclodextrin is prepared and the reducing agent to be included is added thereto and mixed to precipitate the resultant clathrate complex, which is then recovered to afford the aimed complex. Furthermore, ratio of the cyclodextrin and reducing agent used is preferably >=0.5mol. reducing agent based on 1mol. cyclodextrin.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title secondary alcohol of high optical purity by clathrating a carbonyl compound with cyclodextrin, dispersing the clathrate in a solution of reducing agent, then recovering the reduced product from the clathrate. CONSTITUTION:A carbonyl compound of the formula: R COR (R , R are organic residue which do not inhibit the reduction of the carbonyl group, and may form a ring) is clathrated with cyclodextrin (which may be any isomers of alpha, beta, or gamma). The clathrate directly or after dried, is combined with a reducing agent which has been added to a supersaturated inorganic salt aqueous solution or dispersed in an organic solvent under conditions shielded from the light and kept at -20-50 deg.C for 1-100hr to effect the reduction reaction. After removal of unreacting reducing agent, the reaction mixture is extracted with diethyl ether or the like to give the subject compound. The compound is used as a synthetic intermediate of physiologically active substances.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To readily obtain an optically active high-purity epoxy compound useful as an intermediate for various preformed chemical mediators and elements for information, by including an ethylenic unsaturated compound in cyclodextrin, dispersing and bringing the resultant substance into contact with an oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:An arbitrary organic group-containing ethylenic unsaturated compound not preventing inclusion in cyclodextrin and oxidation reaction is included in cyclodextrin, optionally dried, dispersed into any of various organic solvents or an aqueous solution optionally containing an organic solvent and catalytically reacted with an oxidizing agent well-known as an epoxidizing agent of an unsaturated compound preferably at -20-50 deg.C for 2-100hours to selectively obtain an optically active epoxy compound in high purity useful as an intermediate for ferroelectric liquid crystal, antitumor agent, antibiotic by using an inexpensive and repeatedly usable cyclic oligosaccharide free from toxicity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject substance useful as medicine, bioactive substance or asymmetric synthetic intermediate in high yield by including sulfides in cyclodextrin and bringing into contact with oxidizer in dispersion. CONSTITUTION:Sulfides expressed by the formula R SR (R and R are alkyl, aryl, allyl, alkenyl, alkinyl or aralkyl, etc., may be substituted) are included in cyclodextrin (all of alpha, beta and gamma may be used) by kneading method or solution method and resultant clathrate compound is dispersed in organic solvent or water, etc., with screening light, then oxidizer is added, thus reacted at from -20 to 50 deg.C for 2-150 hour to afford the subject substance. In the above- mentioned method, purification is easy and cost is low as using cyclic oligosaccharide stable and repeatedly usable without toxicity in a lower cost than conventional optically active catalyst, and further optical purity of generated substance is high.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound which is a synthetic intermediate for neurontransmitters, antitumor substances, etc., in high optical purity, by bringing a specific carbonyl compound into contact with a reducing agent complex prepared by including a reducing agent in cyclodextrin using a readily available and inexpensive raw material. CONSTITUTION:A reducing agent complex prepared by including a reducing agent in cyclodextrin in a powdery form is directly dispersed in a supersaturated aqueous solution of various inorganic salts or organic solvent by cutting off light and a carbonyl compound having an optional organic residue without interfering reductive reaction is added and reacted therewith at -60-90 deg.C, preferably -20-50 deg.C for 5-100hr to afford the aimed compound. Furthermore, the reducing agent used is preferably a Lewis base complex of borane. The clathrate compound of the reducing agent is obtained by, e.g., adding water (in an amount of about 0.1-6 times based on the cyclodextrin) to the cyclodextrin and kneading the resultant pasty mixture with a reducing agent compound to be included.
