    Abstract: PURPOSE:To join ceramics and metal to high strength by joining an intermediate layer of such material having equal linear thermal expansion property to that of the ceramics to the joining surface of the ceramic member, fitting the intermediate layer to a recessed part formed on the joining surface of the metallic member, and joining the side walls of both members. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic member 1 and metallic member 5 to be joined are prepared. First, on the joining surface of the ceramic member 1, an intermediate layer 4 of such material having same or almost same linear thermal expansion property as that of the ceramic member 1 is joined. On joining the intermediate layer 4, it is preferable that a metal foil 3 (titanium foil) of 10-1000mum thickness is inserted and brazed between the ceramics member 1 and the intermediate layer 4. Then, this intermediate layer is fitted to a recessed part formed on the joining surface of the metallic member 5 to join the side walls of the recessed part and of the intermediate layer 4. Thus, the ceramic member 1 and metallic member 5 are joined.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a beta-sialon.silicon carbide composite material having excellent strength, hardness and oxidation resistance, etc., by mixing a silicon nitride and silicon carbide in an aqueous solution of a soluble aluminum salt, drying, calcining and sintering. CONSTITUTION:A soluble aluminum salt (e.g. aluminum nitrate or aluminum sulfate) is dissolved in water. Next, a silicon nitride and silicon carbide (e.g. silicon carbide powder or fiber) are added to said aqueous solution and mixed in a ball mill, etc., then dried. By said process, assemblage of uniform granules of silicon nitride and silicon carbide powders having the surfaces covered with aluminum salt. Thus, the assemblage is calcined and sintered to afford a sialon.silicon carbide composite material having high strength. Besides, character such as electric conductivity, thermal conductivity or thermal shock resistance is able to be controlled with an amount of adding silicon carbide.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain ceramics at lower sintering temperature without the need of raw material crushing and sintering aid, by sintering rice hull ash as the raw material. CONSTITUTION:First, silicon carbide-silicon nitride powder is produced from the ashed product derived from heating rice hulls in an oxidative or inert gas stream. This powder as the raw material is then pressed and sintered to obtain the objective composite ceramics. The aluminum oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, and iron oxide etc. contained in said ashed product are dispersed homogeneously into the network structure of silicon oxide, while the aluminum oxide etc. act as effective sintering aids. This raw material is active, thus enabling reduction in the sintering temperature of the ceramics.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily and cost economically produce rapidly solidified powder having a high additive value at a high powder yield by a centrifugal spraying method. CONSTITUTION:A metallic sheet is used as a disk for spraying the molten metal injected onto a rotary disk as fine liquid droplets and the position for ejecting the molten metal is deviated to a radial direction from the center of the disk. The formation of the excess solidified layers of the molten metal on the disk is prohibited by these methods, by which a good spraying condition is obtd. and the yield of the rapidly solidified powder is greatly improved.
