    Abstract: PURPOSE:To employ a complex alloy oxide catalyst comprising an oxygen carrier and/or an alkaline earth metal, Co, Fe in the absence of oxygen, supplying oxygen to the employed catalyst and subsequently again employing the recovered catalyst when methane is subjected to an oxidative coupling reaction to prepare >=2C hydrocarbons. CONSTITUTION:Methane is brought into contact with a complex metal oxide catalyst comprising an oxygen carrier and/or an alkaline earth metal. Co and Fe in the absence of oxygen to prepare especially ethane and ethylene at an extremely high production rate and in a high selectivity, especially in the selectivity of >=90%. The complex catalyst is prepared by the process comprising mixing the nitrate aqueous solutions of the alkaline earth metal, Co and Fe with each other, adding citric acid and ethylene glycol to the mixture, heating the mixture in a rotary evaporator at 100 deg.C until the generation of nitrogen oxide gases ceases, drying the resultant sol at 200 deg.C and subsequently heating the dry product. The method readily gives a gas containing the ethane and the ethylene without requiring a condensation process.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate of a functional polymer or medical drug, etc., in high yield with using a small amount of catalyst and in high reaction speed by efficiently oxidizing 2,6- dimethylphenol with oxygen using a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst composed of a copper compound and a various nitrogen compound, namely salt of hydroxylamines and an inorganic acid or a mixture of said amines and acid, or combination of oximes or a mixture of oximes and an inorganic acid is used to oxidize 2,6-dimethylphenol with oxygen preferably in a 1-8C lower aliphatic alcohol or a mixed solution of an aromatic hydrocarbon and a 1-8C lower aliphatic alcohol as a solvent to afford the aimed compound. Reaction temperature is preferably from room temperature to 200 deg.C, especially from room temperature to 80 deg.C. Besides, using ratio of the copper compound to hydroxylamines, etc., is 1mol the former copper compound to 0.3-3mol the latter compound.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high yield by oxidizing 2,4,6- trimethylphenol with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a combination of a copper compound and a specific nitrogen compound in a solvent consisting of an aliphatic alcohol and/or an aromatic hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:3,5-Dimethyl-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde is produced by oxidizing 2,4,6-trimethylphenol with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a copper compound and various nitrogen compounds selected from amines or an inorganic acid amine salt or their mixture, hydroxylamines or inorganic acid hydroxylamine salt or their mixture and oximes or a mixture of oximes and an inorganic acid and using a reaction solvent consisting of a 1-8C lower aliphatic alcohol or a mixture of an aromatic hydrocarbon and a 1-8C lower aliphatic alcohol. The product is useful as a synthetic intermediate for perfumes, agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for perfumery, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, functional polymers, etc., in improved yield at a low cost by oxidizing 2,4,6-trimethylphenol with oxygen in the presence of an alcohol and a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by oxidizing 2,4,6- trimethylphenol with oxygen in the presence of an alcohol and a catalyst consisting of a combination of a copper compound and various nitrogen compounds selected from amines and oximes, and preferably further reacting the reaction product with a 1-8C lower aliphatic alcohol or a mixture of an aromatic hydrocarbon and a 1-8C lower aliphatic alcohol as a reactant and solvent. The amount of the oxime to be used in combination with the copper compound is 0.3-3mol per 1mol of the copper compound. The amount of the amine is preferably 1mol per 1mol of copper.
