    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which a false image working on a single image is removed from the image and a flicker need not be monitored independently without requiring any additional inputs excepting the flicker and the value of a frame period. SOLUTION: In the method in which the false image is removed from the image of a scene displayed by an image data and brightened by a light source, the method contains a step (30) where a flicker function is allocated, and a step (40) where the image data are processed by using the flicker function and the false image is removed from the image. According to one mode, the image data are composed of an image data array consisting of a plurality of rows of image data, and a processing step contains a step where the image data are divided by the flicker function in a row-unit base. According to one mode, the flicker function is the function of the flicker frequency, flicker amplitude and flicker phase of the light source.

In an embodiment of this invention, the digital image signal includes an output from an image sensing device (14), and an S/N estimate device (18) calculates an estimated value of the average S/N of the output digital image signal.
