This invention relates to a composite power/optical fiber cable comprising A) a central single core power conductor (1), having layer(s) of insulation (2), a metal screen (3) and corrosion protective layers including an inner plastic sheath (4), and B) at least one optical fiber (11:16;22;27;31;46;50). The at least one optical fiber is arranged between the screen (3) and the plastic sheath (4). The optical fibers can be incorporated in the power cable in the form of fibers encompassed by a metal tube, - grouped in ribbons, bands or units.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a composite cable including a single core power cable and at least one layer of armour elements, at least one of said armour element being substituted with a metal tube (4) containing at least one optical fiber (1,2,3). The at least one metal tube (4) has a smaller diameter than an armour wire and it is enclosed within a cover (6,12) of insulation material. The insulation cover (6,19) is given a crossection and form which substantially corresponds to the crossection and form of neighbouring armour elements. The insulation cover (6,12) is constituted by a U-shaped insulation element having a slot (5,11) into which the metal tube (4) is inserted. The invention also relates to a method.
