Abstract: In a pipetting apparatus for pipetting a sample with a nozzle, imperfect nozzle clotting condition can be detected in addition to perfect nozzle clotting condition. ÄStructureÜ The pressure in the air hose 12 connected to the nozzle 10 for aspirating a sample 18 is detected by the pressure sensor 20, and the detected pressure value is transmitted to the clot detecting section 26. In this clot detecting section 26, a plurality of pressure calculation periods are set to calculate the pressure difference in each of the calculation periods. When at least one of the calculated pressure differences exceeds at least one of the predetermined threshold values corresponding to the calculation periods respectively, a clot alarm is generated. Since a plurality of the pressure calculation periods are set, an imperfect clotting condition can be detected in addition to the perfect clotting condition, thus improving pipetting accuracy.

Abstract: Purpose: to judge shortage of a discharge quantity, by identifying the presence of any bubbles at the time of discharge. Constitution: characteristics (101) involving bubbles provides a different internal pressure of a nozzle at nearly the end of discharge of a sample than that provided by characteristics (100) not involving bubbles. The nozzle internal pressure is detected at the time of judgement (105), and this detection value is compared with a threshold value. Accordingly, the occurrence of the bubbles can be judged, and shortage of a discharge quantity is judged on the basis of this judgement to give an alarm.

Abstract: ¢ ! In pipetting apparatus of a blood sample the method of the present invention intends to increase rapidity of dilution when diluting a red blood cell component having a high viscosity. At step 212, a diluent is dispensed into a diluting container 66, and at step 213 the diluent is aspirated through a nozzle tip 36 containing therein a red blood cell component. Thus first stage of dilution is performed in the nozzle tip 36. At step 214, a mixed liquid in the nozzle tip 38 is dispensed, and at steps 215 and 216 aspiration and dispensation are repeated to complete the dilution (mixing).

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a pipetting apparatus with leak detecti on and a method for detecting a leak. In one embodiment, an automatic pipetting apparatus comprises a nozzle having a lower end portion through which a flui d sample is aspirated and dispensed by changes in air pressure supplied to the nozzle. A piping system operatively connects the nozzle to a pump for supplying the air pressure to the nozzle. A pressure sensor is operatively connected with the piping system for measuring internal pressure in the pipi ng system. Means is operatively connected with the nozzle for three-dimensional ly moving the nozzle between an aspirating position of the fluid sample and a dispensing position. Leak detecting means is operatively connected with the pressure sensor for detecting a leak in the piping system based upon a measured result obtained by measuring the internal pressure in the piping system with the pressure sensor while the nozzle, which has aspirated a predetermined volume of the fluid sample, is being moved between the aspirating position and the dispensing position by the moving means.

Abstract: The present invention aims to shorten an aspiration time, when aspirating a red blood cell component of a liquid sample having high viscosity. When aspirating the red blood cell component of a blood sample through a nozzle tip, a piston is pulled at its maximum to produce a maximum aspirating force, and starts aspiration. When a pressure in an aspirating system becomes equal to a predetermined value .alpha., the piston is returned to a position in which only a necessary aspiration volume of the liquid sample can be aspirated. Since the maximum aspirating force of the pump is utilized during the aspiration, the aspirating operation can be carried out more quickly.
