Abstract:
898,767. Cleaning metals; modifying metallic surfaces. AMCHEM PRODUCTS Inc. June 30, 1960 [July 7, 1959], No. 23009/60. Class 82(2). [Also in Group XXXV] Apparatus for spraying metal articles with chemical treating solutions (e.g. for cleaning or phosphating) comprises a spray chamber A, a reservoir 2 for treating solution disposed below an opening in the floor of said chamber, a pump 3 for supplying solution from said reservoir to spray system 1, a return bleed connection 5 from the outlet of said pump via aspirator 7 to said reservoir, a source 9 of replenishment solution connected to said aspirator, sensing means which senses the concentration of solution in the reservoir, and control means which controls feed of replenishment solution from source 9 to said reservoir in accordance with the concentration sensed. Control of the feed of replenishment solution is effected by solenoid valve 11, which, when the solution is an electrolyte, is opened or shut according to changes in the conductivity of the solution as measured by cell 12, said cell being connected to controller 14 which delivers impulses via line 17 to valve 11. When the solution is not an electrolyte, variation of e.g. specific gravity may be sensed to control replenishment. Specification 790,252 is referred to.
