Abstract: PURPOSE: To facilitate handling in a hook assembly by eliminating the necessity of separate handles by integrating the handle of a portable computer with the lock mechanism of a cover. CONSTITUTION: A cover part 16 is installed on a keyboard unit 14 and linked through a hinge 18 to a main body 12. Besides, a handle 20 is attached at the cover part 16, and the computer can be easily carried with the handle 20. When the cover 16 is opened, a display 22 and keys 24 on the keyboard part 14 are exposed. This keyboard part is provided with two slots 23. Two hooks 24 are extended downward from the cover part. When the cover 16 is closed, the hooks 24 are engaged with the correspondent slots 23 and the cover is held at a prescribed place. In order to disengage the hooks 24 from the slots 23, the handle 20 is pushed in. Then, the mechanical assembly releases the force of spring and moves the hooks away from the front part of the cover. Thus, the hooks 24 are released from the slots 23 and the cover part can be opened.
