Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for variable accuracy inter-picture timing specification for digital video encoding. SOLUTION: The present invention discloses a system that allows the relative timing of nearby video pictures to be encoded in a very efficient manner. In one embodiment, the display time difference between a current video picture (105) and a nearby video picture is determined. The display time difference is then encoded (180) into a digital representation of the video picture. In a preferred embodiment, the nearby video picture is the most recently transmitted stored picture. For coding efficiency, the display time difference may be encoded using a variable length coding system or arithmetic coding. In an alternate embodiment, the display time difference is encoded as a power of two to reduce the number of bits transmitted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for processing media data transmitted inside a data communication medium. SOLUTION: It is shown how to transmit the sequence of media data with the set of data related to time according to a certain transmitting protocol. This set of data contains the sequence of data, which are related to time, related to the sequence of these media data related to time. A digital processing system utilizes this set of data and can transmit the sequence of media data related to time(by that transmitting protocol and a packet generated according to the set of these data, for example).
Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses for processing media data for transmission in a data communication medium. A set of data indicates how to transmit a time related sequence of media data according to a transmission protocol. The set of data, includes a time related sequence of data which is associated with the time related sequence of media data. The set of data may be utilized by a digital processing system to transmit the time related sequence of media data (e.g., by packets generated according to the transmission protocol and the set of data).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to information which allows transmission of time related data over a data communication medium. In one embodiment, a set of data includes at least one instruction to cause a digital processing system to generate a set of packets representing a time related sequence of media data. The set of packets is associated with a transmission protocol. The set of data includes a time related sequence of data which is associated with the time related sequence of media data.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses for processing media data transmitted in a data communication medium. A digital processing system is provided with a time related sequence of media data provided to the digital processing system based on a set of data, wherein the set of data indicates a method to transmit the time related sequence of media data according to a transmission protocol. The set of data, itself, is a time related sequence of data associated with the time related sequence of media data. The time related sequence of media data may be presented and/or stored by the digital processing system.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing motion estimation in a digital video system is disclosed (Fig.1). Specifically, the present invention discloses a system that quickly calculates estimated motion vectors in a very efficient manner (Fig.1, item 160). In one embodiment, a first multiplicand is determined by multiplying a first display time difference between a first video picture and a second video picture by a power of two scale value (Fig.1, items 150, 160). This step scales up a numerator for a ratio (Fig.1, item 120). Next, the system determines a scaled ratio by divi ding that scaled numerator by a second first display time difference between the second video picture and a third video picture. The scaled ratio is then stored calculating motion vector estimations. By storing the scaled ratio, all the estimated motion vectors can be calculated quickly with good precision since the scaled ratio saves significant bits and reducing the scale is performed by simple shifts (Fig.1, item 180).

Abstract:
A method for processing scalable content stored in a first set of data which contains samples for presenting a presentation at a plurality of scales of scalable content, the method comprising: receiving one of a plurality of extractor track sets with the one of the plurality of extractor track sets including a second set of data derived from the first set, wherein each of the plurality of extractor track sets corresponds to one of a plurality of operating points within the scalable content, the second set containing references to the first set for use in identifying first operating point data for a first operating point from the first set, the first operating point data being a subset of the first set of data; and accessing, with a digital processing system, the references to transmit, store or present data, referenced by the second set, from the first set without examining each piece of the first set of data and without examining all of the plurality of extractor track sets.
