    Abstract: PURPOSE: To enhance the output efficiency for a load variable over a wide range by compensating for the fluctuation of load current through regulation of the duty cycle of a square wave generator and turning the square wave generator off completely over a significantly large part of the operating time of a power supply when the current demand level is low. CONSTITUTION: Upon receiving an output signal from a programmable reference generator 45 and an operation mode signal from a controller 50, a switching regulator 15 outputs a square wave to the primary coil 22 of a transformer 20 which produces a DC output voltage through the secondary coil thereof. In full-on constant voltage mode, a constant voltage output is sustained by varying the duty cycle of the square wave continuously with a feedback signal generated from a reference voltage generator 45. The controller 50 monitors the load demand level and when it drops below a specified level, a transition signal to burst mode is delivered and the switching regulator 15 is paused except the charging interval of capacitors 61, 63.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a power management unit in which a plurality of types of battery packs can be used and an optimal recharging current can be supplied by providing a memory means storing the charging information of a plurality of types of battery, and a controller means delivering the charging information in response to a battery type data. CONSTITUTION: A microprocessor 15 determines the type of a battery pack 30 through a power management unit 20 and checks the charged state of the battery pack 30 through an AC power supply 25. When the battery pack 30 is not charged fully and the difference between the ambient temperature and the battery temperature comes within a given range, charging operation is started. Consequently, the microprocessor 15 checks the voltage level of the battery pack 30 according to a charge instruction for the type of battery prestored in an RAM 20. The power management unit 20 stops the charging operation when the voltage supplied to the battery pack 30 is different from a currently available voltage and the difference is minimized, and a CPU 40 instructs to display a faulty battery.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To make the configuration of device for performing electric separation small in size and light in weight by replacing a transformer with an optic/ electronic coupler. CONSTITUTION: Each time a pulse from a computer 20 through a MODEM 22 is received, a 1st LED is flashed. Corresponding to the duration and synchronism of this output pulse, a phototransistor 18 is conducted and an electronic pulse is transmitted through a MODEM 21 to a telephone system 30. The electronic pulse is transmitted from the system 30 to the computer 20 by a similar symmetric circuit. Because of such a system for separating the MODEM 21 and 22 by replacing the optic/electronic coupler with the transformer without using any transformer, the configuration of device for performing electric separation is made light in weight and small in size.
