Abstract: A reduced size male plug connector 1100 for connection to a corresponding receptacle connector comprises a housing 1120 accommodating a plurality of contacts 1140a, 1140b spaced apart in a single row. The front end 1122 of the housing 1120 is received by the receptacle connector and includes a top surface and a central bottom surface 1124 between two lateral bottom surfaces 1126. The central bottom surface 1124 is an exterior surface of the male plug connector 1100 and has a plurality of contact locations 1130 for the plurality of contacts 1140a, 1140b. In a further embodiment, the housing 1120 comprises a moveable door that covers the plurality of contact locations 1140a, 1140b when the front end 1122 is not inserted into the receptacle connector. In another embodiment, the contact locations 1130 consist of first and second portions, wherein the second portion of contact locations may be located further from the front edge 1123 of the front end 1122 than the first portion of contact locations and wherein respective contact locations of the first portions are separated by pairs of contact locations of the second portion. Data signals carried by the contacts may include USB 3.0 signals and DisplayPort signals.
